HISTORY INSPIRES: A visiting Q150 event will bring dance and history alive.

Q150 DANCE

QUT students Patric Lilleboe and Zoe Clarke, formerly from Yeppoon, will present Dancing AcrossQueensland: a dance project commemorating the Q150 celebrations, at schools across Rockhampton.

A DANCE based on Rockhampton area history will be performed at schools in the district over the next three days.Queensland University of Technology students identified and researched historical dance events, popular dance styles and key dance figures from the community and used this information as the stimulus for the creation of a new dance work.Students are now excited to announce Dancing Across Queensland: a dance project commemorating the Q150 celebrations. Dancing Across Queensland celebrates the social and cultural dance traditions and practices that define Queensland. In researching the Rockhampton area, QUT students Patric Lilleboe and Zoe Clarke were inspired by the extensive range of dance styles performed at the annual opening night dinner of the Pinefest Festival in Yeppoon. Patric, who hails from Yeppoon, and Zoe have abstracted social dances like the waltz, swing and disco and the resulting choreography is a montage of popular dance and music at the Pinefest over its many years of celebration. QUT students will lead 46 workshops in 30 schools across the state. Zoe and Patric will be visiting North Rockhampton State High School today, Emmaus College Rockhampton on Thursday and Mt Morgan Central Primary School on Wednesday. Dancing Across Queensland provides QUT tertiary dance students with the opportunity to put their vocational aspirations to be artists and teachers into practice. Individuals living in rural and remote communities throughout Queensland have the opportunity to be involved in a unique dance experience.
